Soong Hong Wong is a conductor, pianist, and singer from Malaysia. He has been serving as the conductor of the Kajang Chinese Methodist Church (KCMC) Youth Choir since 2016, and has recently been appointed as the interim conductor of the KCMC Church Choir in May 2021.
As an enthusiastic chorister, Soong Hong has sung with the award-winning Malaysia Bach Festival Singers, as well as Mendelssohnchor Malaysia. He has served as the president and the advisor of the two premier choirs at UCSI University. During his years in the choirs, they have won the Mixed-Voice Category Champion at the Choralympic Festival in Pyeongchang, South Korea; the Adult Choir Category Gold Award and the Grand Champion at the 10th International Choir Festival in Pattaya, Thailand; and the Silver Award at the 2018 Taiwan International Choral Competition. Additionally, they have also performed with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. |
Soong Hong has won the Gold Award in the preliminary round of the 20th Hong Kong-Asia Piano Open Competition in 2018. He was invited to perform at the Chamber Music Ensemble Honors Recital for two consecutive years (2018 & 2019) at UCSI University. He currently serves as a piano instructor at Clavier Music Studio, and a pianist at the Kajang Chinese Methodist Church.
Soong Hong has been studying conducting under the tutelage of Dr. David Chin. Over the years, he has participated in numerous choral workshops and festivals, including the International Kodály Symposium, East Malaysia Choral Conducting Workshop, the Church Choral Workshop in Kuala Lumpur, among others. He has received the Robert P. Fountain Scholarship and the International Christian Choral Conducting Society Music Education Fund-Scholarship to pursue Master of Music in Conducting at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. He received the UCSI University Trust Scholarship, and successfully completed Bachelor of Classical Music in Piano Performance from UCSI University in Kuala Lumpur, where he studied piano under Dr. Cheong Yew Choong. His previous piano instructors include Mr. Ian Goh and Mr. Andy Ho.
