Michael Hudlin is a young man with exceptional potential. He will pursue a masters in choral conducting at the Eastman School of Music. In 2016, Michael received a Certificate in Music from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine (UWI), where he was also awarded the Suraj Boodram Prize for Best Music Certificate Student. After transferring to the State University of New York (SUNY) at Plattsburgh in Fall 2017, Michael gained more experience through his engagement in piano studies with Dr. Karen Becker and vocal and choral conducting with Professor Jo Ellen Miano. Michael is one of the newest graduates of SUNY Plattsburgh, receiving BA in Music in May 2019.

During his time in Trinidad and Tobago, Michael taught at both the primary (elementary) and secondary (high school) school levels. He served as the organist at several churches including Our Lady of Perpetual Help R.C Church and St. Andrew Kaggwa R.C. Church. Michael also assumed the role of Musical Director for productions held by the local theatre company Chandelier Productions. He was especially prolific in their production entitled A Breath of Fresh Air where he premiered many of his compositions and arrangements.

Michael has performed as the baritone soloist for Schubert’s Mass in G with the UWI Arts Chorale led by Mr. Jessel Murray in conjunction with the UWI Arts Steel Orchestra. He also sang as part of the ensemble for Mozart’s Requiem in D Minor, Bach’s Magnificat in D Major, and Handel’s Messiah.

Over the years, Michael has received many accolades for his musical accomplishments, including First Place in Music in the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC). Michael competed in the Trinidad and Tobago Music Festival where he won several awards, including championship trophies for Boys' Vocal Solo 16-19, Bass Solo and Mixed Duet, and the Adjudicators' Awards for “Best Composition” and “Most Improved.” At SUNY Plattsburgh, Michael was awarded the Louise H. Heisler Music Scholarship through the Plattsburgh College Foundation and the prize for Outstanding Achievement in Music from the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Michael participated in SUNY Plattsburgh’s production of The Drowsy Chaperone and performed as Horton in the Adirondack Lakes Centre for the Art’s production of Seussical. Michael has sung as the baritone soloist for Bach Cantata 106 with the SUNY’s Concert Choir—directed by Professor Jo Ellen Miano—and for Mozart’s Missa Brevis in G (K49) with Champlain Valley Voices—directed by Timothy Morningstar.

He served as assistant conductor of Concert Choir, the Vice President of Club International and he assisted the College Theatre Association as their musical director. In October, 2018, he directed their Musical Revue, and in April 2019 he directed and accompanied Sondheim’s Company from the piano.
