Joshua Johnstone (he/him) is a choral conductor, lifelong pianist and singer, risk analytics professional, applied mathematician, North Carolina native, and humanist. He is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Choral Conducting at the Eastman School of Music, studying with Dr. William Weinert.
Joshua has held leadership roles with several large community choruses. With the Concert Singers of Cary, a 120+ voice auditioned chorus, he served as Assistant Conductor (2022–2025) and as a member of the Board of Directors (2023–2025). In 2025, he was a board member and Vice President of Music and Performance for Heart of Carolina A Cappella, an internationally ranked, mixed-voice barbershop chorus of over 40 singers. Joshua previously directed the UNCG Spartones, a premier tenor–bass a cappella group, and the SAS Vocal Motion show choir. He has performed with ensembles in renowned venues including Carnegie Hall and St. Peter’s Basilica, and has sung with the NC State Choral Artists semi-professional ensemble, the CHROMATICA Collective, and several competitive barbershop quartets. Joshua earned B.A. degrees in Music Studies and Mathematics from UNC Greensboro and a Master of Financial Mathematics from NC State University. He worked for six years as a software developer and domain expert at SAS Institute in Cary, NC, and is now a risk consultant with Financial Risk Group, Inc. |
