Esther Ting, from Sibu, Sarawak, is a first year master student in choral conducting at the Eastman School of Music. She is the recipient of the Roberts P. Fountain Scholarship and is currently the accompanist of the Eastman Women Chorus.
Prior to her graduate studies, she earned her degree in vocal performance from Roberts Wesleyan College (RWC), NY under the tutelage of Professor Constance Fee, and was a conducting student of Dr. David Chin and Dr. Paul Shewan. Upon graduation, she was elected as the honorable member (Alpha Kappa Sigma) of the Association of Free Methodist Educational Institutions on the basis of her excellence in scholarship, character, and extra-curricular activities.
Chosen by the RWC music faculty to receive the prestigious 2017-2018 Presser Scholar Award, she served as the accompanist of RWC Chorale, orchestra and opera workshop during her undergraduate studies. She has frequently appeared as vocal soloist of recitals, oratorio works, and opera both locally and internationally and was a finalist of the National Association Teacher of Singing competition of the Eastern Division in 2017.
As an active church musician, she has appeared as assistant conductor and vocal instructor in workshops and camps in collaboration with organizations including the International Christian Choral Conductors Society, Central Malaysia Sacred Music Promotion Association, and Kenaniah Chorale Association, Malaysia. Over the past few summers, she has sung professionally as a chorister with Malaysia Bach Festival and East Malaysia Bach Cantata Singers and Orchestra. She received her Associate Piano Performance Diploma from Trinity College of London in 2009 and Licentiate Jazz Piano Performance Diploma from International Music Examination Board, Australia (High Distinction) in 2010.
